Our Founders

Risa Clay is a council woman for the Borough of Tinton Falls. She is currently serving as the Deputy  Council President and the liaison to the Board of Education. At the onset of the Covid 19 epidemic Risa was working with local families in need of rental assistance and food. She reached out to local high school senior, Charlotte Stant and the two of them began to brainstorm ways to provide immediate relief for families suffering from food insecurity. This was the start of Compañeros de Comida which quickly evolved into a weekly food delivery service program coordinated by Charlotte who supervised a large number of high school volunteers.

Risa Clay is a retired educator having worked at Red Bank Regional High School for 27 years. During her tenure she succeeded in improving curriculum, climate and opportunities for students and staff while being fiscally responsible. She is the recipient of the Martin Luther King Community Service Award and many others. She was also the founder of a nationally recognized full service on site counseling program for students, the Source, and created a 501c3 to supplement the program. To serve  undocumented students she designed Puente al Futuro and the Kroon/ Brookdale scholarship initiative allowing students to attend college on a full scholarship. Under her leadership, the ELL/Bilingual program was redesigned into an award winning model. Risa is a licensed drug and alcohol counselor and has a multitude of experience in fiscal management, personnel services, professional development, teamwork and communications.

Charlotte Stant is now a Trustee Scholar and student at Boston University studying International Relations with a minor in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies on the pre-law track. She serves on Student Government as a Senator for the College of Arts Sciences, and is the Co-chair of the FEAST Committee, which works on food equality, sustainability and transparency. Charlotte is a staff writer for the International Relations Review, with a specific focus on the Middle East
. She is also a Teaching Assistant Intern for IR453: Forced Migration and Human Trafficking Policy Incubator. Charlotte hopes to continue on a career path in social justice and immigration policy.

Since the organization's inception in March of 2020, Compa
ñeros has served over 200,000 meals and provided food to over one hundred local families.
